Dania Beach Museums
According to the American Association of Museums, “museums occupy a unique place in American society and culture. They are places of discovery, exploration, and lifelong learning. They are places of knowledge and inspiration, showing us who we were, who we are, and what we can be.” In addition, museums are viewed “as one of the most important resources for educating our children and as one of the most trustworthy sources of objective information. Museums are centers of community life and stewards of local culture.”

The first South Florida Holocaust Museum, currently in Phase II, is delighted to be located in the heart of Dania Beach, Florida. Our site is 26,000 sq. ft., on one floor, with 21 ft. high ceilings. It is located minutes from I-95, Fort-Lauderdale Hollywood Airport and Port Everglades, making it exceptionally easy for schools, local visitors, tourists and cruise passengers.
The first South Florida Holocaust Museum is a cultural gem for Broward County and the State of Florida has among the largest collections of Holocaust artifacts and research materials, 2,500 eyewitness testimonies, 6,000-volume research and reference libraries, films, DVDs, photographs, and priceless Holocaust memorabilia. These collections and exhibits attract visitors and scholars from all over the world.
With Holocaust Education mandatory in Florida public schools, the Museum is a wonderful central educational facility for the approximately 925,000 public school students and tens of thousands of private and parochial school students living in the Tri-County area of Broward, Miami-Dade, and Palm Beach.
The Museum takes a multimedia, interactive approach combining the HDEC’s exceptional holdings, along with a collection of items that have been gathered specifically for this museum.
There is widespread interest in visiting Holocaust museums; yet there has been no Holocaust museum here in South Florida. Since its opening in 1993, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C., has welcomed more than 40 million visitors; the Simon Wiesenthal Center in Los Angeles has welcomed more than 6 million visitors since 1993, with 350,000 visiting annually. Yad Vashem in Israel, which opened to the public in 1957, has more than a million visitors a year. The Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center in Chicago, which opened in 2009, has had more than 200,000 visitors annually. The Anne Frank House is the third-most-visited museum in Amsterdam, with more than 1.4 million visitors in 2016.
For more than three decades, the Center has aggressively confronted hatred, prejudice and violence. As we confront the challenges of today, our efforts are full speed ahead to endow a “LEGACY OF REMEMBRANCE” for all our children and grandchildren so they will know and understand the meaning of NEVER AGAIN.
