Primary Duties of the City Manager

The City of Dania Beach is a Commission-Manager form of local government.  
The City Manager is appointed by the elected City Commission.

The City Manager serves as the chief executive officer and is responsible for the administration of the City and carrying out the policies and directives of the City Commission.  The Manager’s duties include providing leadership and direction to the City departments; preparation of the City’s annual operating budget; working with federal, state and, local officials; attending meetings of the Dania Beach City Commission.

City Manager Ana M. Garcia, ICMA-CM

Ms. Garcia is a visionary and innovative results-oriented leader. She encourages teamwork and a collaborative approach to achieving organizational excellence while promoting and achieving community prosperity. She has a passion for good government embodied in the personal philosophy of "Respect, Integrity, Service and Excellence."

Ms. Garcia brings over 20 years of senior municipal government experience including serving as City Manager, Assistant City Manager and Director of Parks & Recreation and Community Services.  

Ms. Garcia was awarded the Katheryn E. Hensley Distinguished Public Service Practitioner Award by the American Society for Public Administration - SECoPA 2018. She served as president of the Miami-Dade City and County Manager's Association. Ms. Garcia was presented with the John F. Cosgrove "Founders" Award by Miami-Dade County League of Cities in January of 2018 and was inducted into the South Miami Senior High - Hall of Fame in May of 2018.

She has a B. S. in Parks & Recreation Management from Florida International University and is an ICMA Credentialed Professional Manager.
